How OpenBack Ranked Matchmaking Works
Inside OpenBack's closest-rating queue, multiple simultaneous matches, and reliable game assignment.
Fairness without endless waiting
The matchmaker prefers the closest available rating, but rating is not a hard wall. If two players are the only opponents available, they can still play instead of waiting indefinitely.
The queue supports many players
Four queued players can become two matches and six can become three. If the count is odd, the unmatched player stays ready for the next arrival.
Assignment reaches both clients
The shared game ID is delivered before queue connections close. Both browsers can then join the assigned game instead of interpreting a normal matchmaking disconnect as a failure.
